Finding Harmony in the Chaos
We live in a world that often feels overwhelming and chaotic. Yet, as a queer man raising a gender non-conforming child, I’ve found myself at my calmest, most centered, and most optimistic point in life.
But let me tell you—this didn’t happen overnight.
Like many, I felt completely lost after the 2016 election. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I fantasized about fleeing the country, and I felt consumed by fear for the future. Today, while I’m still deeply aware of the challenges we face, I no longer let those stories dominate my life.
So, how did I find my way to harmony?
It wasn’t through denial or avoidance. It was through confronting the hardest truths about myself and the world and then finding the tools to navigate them.
This space is where I share those tools. It’s a collection of personal insights, mindset shifts, and practical practices designed to help us all cultivate balance and peace in our daily lives—even when the world feels out of tune.
Why Harmony?
As a music educator, I think about harmony daily. It’s not just about beautiful sounds—it’s about balance, connection, and creating something greater than the sum of its parts. Harmony teaches us to listen, to adjust, and to thrive together.
In a culture that prizes independence, we often lose sight of this. We’re taught to be self-reliant to the point of exhaustion, rather than embracing interdependence and collaboration. But harmony doesn’t only apply to our relationships with others; it begins within ourselves.
Think of yourself as an instrument. What song are you putting out into the world? Is it intentional? Is your instrument in tune?
Harmony isn’t perfection—it’s alignment. It’s finding balance amidst the mess.
What to Expect
On my blog this year, some of the things I plan to share cover topics such as:
• Letting go of perfectionism and self-judgment
• Cultivating habits that nurture joy and connection
• Building resilience during tough times
• Embracing creativity, mindfulness, and self-awareness
I’ll also ask big, open-ended questions because curiosity is the foundation of growth.
An Invitation
As we enter this new year together, I encourage you to pause and reflect:
• What does harmony look like for you right now?
• What is one small step you can take to bring balance into your life?
I hope this space inspires you to explore, connect, and rediscover what harmony means in your unique story.
Let’s navigate the chaos together, one note at a time.
P.S. I’d love to hear your reflections in the comments or connect further if you’re curious about coaching opportunities. Let’s create something beautiful together.
